How to Get a Cheap Medical Insurance Rate

Term life insurance is generally the cheapest form of life insurance, but it's not the only option. Unlike term coverage, in which only the face value is paid out upon your death, a whole life policy accrues a cash value.

In order for the cash value to increase, money over and above that which is necessary to cover the premium must be collected. Because of this, whole life insurance rarely will be the cheaper of the two.

Looking for a cheap medical insurance rate with a top company? Here's how to get it.

Medical Insurance

Medical insurance costs have doubled in the last few years, and because of that a lot of people think they can't afford to be covered. Other people feel they don't need it because they're healthy and won't be stricken with a major medical problem. Wrong on both counts.

Fact is, we all need medical insurance and there are ways to get a cheap medical insurance rate.

Cheap Medical Insurance

Medicaid

If you're in a low income bracket, your state has a Medicaid program that will provide medical insurance for you and your family if your qualify. Medicaid medical insurance provides coverage for dental care, eye care, health care, and prescription drugs. For information on Medicaid medical insurance, call or visit your nearest Division of Family Services office for details.

If you don't qualify for Medicaid, your next step is to go shopping for an inexpensive health care plan. There are two types of insurance that offer the most benefits for the least amount of money - HMOs and PPOs:

HMOs (Health Maintenance Organizations)

HMOs charge a fixed monthly fee for which they provide medical services that include doctor visits, hospitalization, surgery, and prescription drug coverage. Members must choose a primary car physician who oversees their health care, and they can only receive medical treatment from doctors and facilities that are part of the HMO's network.

PPOs (Preferred Provider Organizations)

PPOs are similar to HMOs in that you receive medical services through a prescribed network of physicians and facilities. But unlike HMOs, members do not need to get permission from their primary care physician to see a specialist. PPOs cost about 5% more than HMOs.

Cheap Medical Insurance Rates

You can call local insurance companies or go to individual insurance sites to get medical insurance rate quotes, but the easiest way to get quotes is to go to an insurance comparison website.

Insurance comparison sites let you get quotes from a number of insurance companies. You want to get at least three quotes, then choose the quote that's best for your circumstances. If you have any questions about health insurance, the better comparison sites have insurance professionals on hand who can answer them.

Cheap Medical Insurance Online

More than half of all families with medical insurance in this country report that the cost of their monthly premium is a severe financial hardship each month, and fully 16% of all Americans can't afford health insurance in any form. So is it any wonder that almost every person in the country is looking for cheap medical insurance online?

The good news is that almost everyone can save money on their health insurance if they purchase it online. However, in order to find the very best price possible for your insurance it will be necessary for you to fill out the forms on the price comparisons websites in the right way so as to create the perfect low-cost policy to begin with.

Let's start with something simple. Did you know that you can save money on your insurance if you pay your premium automatically each month from your bank account? If your insurance company doesn't have the cost of billing you every month they pass that savings on to you. Keeping your credit clean will also save you money. All insurance companies base your monthly premium, at least in some small part, on your credit score - so be careful with those plastic cards!

If you really and truly want to find this then you can't smoke and you can't use chew. This should come as no surprise - so if you're genuinely serious about getting the best possible price for your medical insurance then you're going to have to give up smoking.

You'll also have to watch your weight. If you are overweight it should also come as no great surprise that you are not going to get the best possible price on your health insurance. Insurance companies look at your Body Mass Index (BMI) when determining your monthly premium cost, so the lower you can get that BMI the lower your cost of insurance is going to be.

Driving a fast sports car and taking part in extreme or dangerous sports or hobbies will also increase the cost of your insurance.

If you can find group health insurance you'll pay considerably less than if you attempt to buy it. Most people buy group health insurance through their place of employment, but if your workplace doesn't offer affordable group health then see if any clubs or organizations or associations that you belong to offer it to their members. You just might be surprised at the number of groups that do.

If you don't see your doctor very often and you're generally in good health then it might very well pay you to increase your co-payment to 50%. Increasing your co-pay will save you money every single month.

Similarly, increasing your deductible will also save you a bundle on the cost of your health premium every month. Just don't go overboard and increase your deductible past the point that you can actually afford to pay for it.

Ultimately if you want really cheap medical insurance you'll have to look online. In order to get the very best deal online you will have to find at least 3 different websites that encourage you to compare the prices of policies between different insurance companies. Because each of these websites only compares the prices from a small number of insurance companies you will need to look at prices from a minimum of 3 sites in order for you to see prices from the majority of companies so that you can feel confident you've found the lowest price possible.

But once you've seen the prices from at least 3 price comparison sites then you'll know for sure where the best price can be found and you can feel confident that you have bought the cheapest insurance available online and that you have saved the most money you possibly could.

Cheap Individual Health Insurance

Without a shadow of a doubt, health truly is wealth. Most people take all the necessary precautions to make sure that our health is not and will not be compromised. One way of doing so is getting an individual health insurance. Health insurance companies offer various plans to give you the best health benefits that you need. But then there are some plans that are simply too expensive. Good thing there is such a thing as cheap individual health insurance.

What is individual health insurance?

Individual health insurance or ?indemnities? are plans that offer in-depth medical coverage. Unlike your typical group insurance plans, indemnities give you a wider selection of medical providers. Payments for expenses are usually reimbursed to you, therefore relieving you of the stress of going through the usual paperwork.

Though the benefits you receive from indemnities are similar to your typical group insurance plans, the main difference is that applicants for indemnities go through a filtering process.

Getting cheap insurance

Of course, these plans come with a cost and some of their offerings are too expensive for most people to afford. So how do you get cheap indemnities without compromising your safety? Though there is no specific way of getting cheap insurance plans, the best way is to always stay healthy and engage in exercise, as being in good health will often secure lower rates.

Before getting the benefits of these indemnities, you will have to go through a series of tests in order for the insurance provider to determine whether or not you are eligible for these plans. You will need to take a physical test, interviews, and answer questionnaires which will state your personal background, medical history, and lifestyle. Those who are more likely to get serious diseases such as heart disease may receive high rates compared to those who are fairly healthy.

Group Medical Insurance – The Two Basic Kinds

Those of us in search of medical insurance ideally want to get our hands on a group medical insurance plan. Admit it – one of the biggest perks of taking a new job, and hanging onto it, is the group medical insurance plan that it offers. Unfortunately, employers are not required to offer any kind of group medical insurance plans to their employees. If your employer does not offer a kind of group medical insurance plan, or you are self-employed, unemployed, or employed only part-time, chances are you are going to have to search for an individual medical insurance plan, and let’s face it – finding an affordable individual medical insurance plan can be quite the scavenger hunt.

The two most popular ways to get a group medical insurance plan is through your employer and through an organization with which you are affiliated. Many organizations offer all types of insurance plans, from medical and life insurance to auto and home owners insurance, to their members. If you belong to one of these kinds of organizations, read up on their policies about group medical insurance plans.

Briefly, there are two main kids of group medical insurance plans. You may get a fully insured group medical insurance plan, in which your employer or organization agrees to take on the responsibility of covering all of your health-related services. Or, you may get a minimum premium plan, also known as an MMP, in which your employer or organization takes on the responsibility of paying a certain amount of your health-related services. Think of it as a cap. After that amount of money has been dished out, the insurer picks up the tab.

With a minimum premium plan, you may be offered a basic coverage group medical insurance plan, a major medical coverage group insurance medical plan, or a combination of the two – a group medical insurance plan that offers both basic coverage and major medical coverage.

Health Insurance Coverage - At A Price That Won't Make You Sick

The cost of health insurance these days, especially for families, is doing a lot more than just making people sick - the outrageously high cost is causing people to lose their life savings and even, in some cases, their homes. How? More than 16% of all families in this country can't afford any health coverage at all. One major illness or accident and these families can lose everything they've worked a lifetime for. But it doesn't have to be this way. There's a simple little secret - one your broker hopes you'll never learn - that could save you 30 or even 40% on your monthly premium.

But before we go into details on how you can easily get your health coverage at wholesale prices, let's discuss a few other things that you really need to consider if you really want to slash the cost of your monthly premium.

One of the simplest things you can do is to pay your premium automatically every month directly from your bank account. In this way your company won't be forced to mail you an expensive bill every month and they are delighted to pass a good portion of their savings along to you in the form of a lower monthly premium.

Most health policies come with a standard 25% co-payment whenever you see your doctor. For many families this is a good way to go. However, if you and your family don't see your doctor on a regular basis maybe it's time you did a little simple math and figured out how much it would cost you to increase your co-pay to 50% vs. the savings you would realize each and every month. You might be surprised at your overall savings if you up your co-pay.

Don't smoke and don't use chew. You've heard it before, but that doesn't make it any less true. You will NEVER get the best rate on your health insurance if you smoke or use chew. It's time to make a choice.

Increasing your deductible will lower your premium. Just be careful that you don't get carried away and increase your deductible past the point at which you can actually afford to pay for it every year.

So what's the Big Secret, the one that will lower the cost of your health insurance down to 1990 levels? It's really quite simple. All you need to do is to buy your policy online.

Online brokers have virtually no overhead and you know what that means. It means they can charge you wholesale prices for your coverage and still make a profit. But there's even more. Online brokers have just a TON of competition, and when there's this much competition there's only one way for a broker to stay in business - by slashing his or her prices even further!

The bottom line is: YOU WIN! By buying your policy online you'll get it at prices that will make you feel as if you have stepped back in time. And there's another plus as well. When you buy your policy online there's no agent standing at your shoulder talking you into buying more coverage than you need or can afford.

Is Health Insurance "Kid Stuff"?

It's faster than a speeding bullet!
More powerful than a locomotive!
Able to leap tall buildings with a single bound!
Look - it's a bird! It's a plane!

Actually, it isn't either. And it isn't Superman. It's super medical expenses!

More is spent each year on medical expenses than on the national debt - many times more. And it continues to climb - more than twice as fast as inflation.

Yes, if anything deserves our attention it is Health Insurance. Some 50 million Americans are now without insurance and the number continues to climb. We may not be able to address the national problem, but we may prevent our family from adding to the statistics.

When should I get serious about Health Insurance?

At the earliest age possible getting affordable health insurance is one of the wisest decisions we make. Every year that passes without health insurance means higher premiums and the increased possibility that we may develop a medical condition - cancer, heart disease, diabetes - that could actually make us if not uninsurable, at least unable to afford adequate health insurance.

Your car insurance rewards you as you age (up to a point) but your health insurance companies know that the older you get the more it costs them to insure you - so get it while you're young!

Is there any good news?

Yes, there is. Protecting your health is not only going to benefit you personally, but will keep your health insurance premiums down.

For example:
If you don't smoke - good!
If you do - quit! The health benefits to quitting smoking start within 20 minutes, and continue for years until in many areas you progress to the point of one who never smoked)

If you exercise - good!
If you don't - start! (Exercising even 10 minutes three times a week decreases the risk of such diseases as diabetes.)

If you watch your diet - good!
If you don't - start! (A diet lacking protein and fiber, but high in refined food is one of the causes of diabetes)

More good news!
Getting affordable health insurance quotes can be made easier today than ever before - put the Internet to work for you!

By going online and answering a few basic questions you can get multiple quotes from top rated insurance companies. Within minutes you can see a side by side listing of health insurance policies and their rates.

This does not make health insurance rates inexpensive, but it does mean you can get the best health insurance rates available.

And that is a good thing!

Tips for Finding Cheap Health Insurance Coverage

Are you in need of a cheap health insurance policy for yourself or your family? If so, your best bet is to start your search by getting several free health insurance quotes and then comparing the costs and the coverage provided. Once you've gotten your free quotes you'll want to contact a few of these companies directly for more information.

There's something about the phrase "cheap health insurance" that bothers me a little bit. Rather than say "cheap", I'd prefer to say, affordable, inexpensive, low cost or something along those lines. Somehow by saying that something is cheap it could very easily be perceived as low quality. Anyway, in the area of health insurance you won't find many cheap policies anyway, though some will be more affordable than others.

Does your empoloyer offer group coverage? If so, you would be much better off to buy coverage through there than you would be to get it in the private sector. There's strength in numbers and buying group is much more affordable than buying single policies. Unfortunately, a lot of employers can't afford to provide health insurance any longer.

You may have to reduce the coverage of a health insurance plan in order to get it within your budget. You might be able to do this by reducing the amount of care provided within a policy. Sometimes this is possible and sometimes it's not. Another thing that you can do is to raise your deductible to the maximum amount possible. I realize that this seems to defeat the purpose of having health insurance, however, the idea here is to cover yourself against long term hospitalization and do your best to pay for your regular doctor visits yourself.

We're between a rock and a hard place here in the USA right now as far as having cheap health insurance options. I recommend that you do what I suggested above and do your best to find an inexpensive plan that's within your budget.

Cheap Health Insurance & the Cost of Living Modern Lifestyles

Finding cheap health insurance is not as easy as it used to be. Health care costs have risen dramatically over the past decade and there seems to be no end in sight. As of the time of this writing, there are over 40 million Americans without any form of health care protection. This won't just cost them in the long run, but everyone in this country. Unpaid medical bills will gradually force doctors and hospitals to raise rates even higher. People going bankrupt because of medical debt not only eliminate their modical obligations, but all of their other debts too, leaving other businesses to hold the bag.

Please don't get me wrong here. It's not my intention to slam those struggling individuals that can't afford health insurance. I'm just venting and pointing some things out for thoise that are unaware of what's happening here in the USA.

Another disturbing fact that has come up recently is that one full third of the population of Americans is obese. Obese is considered to be 20 pounds above a persons ideal weight. This is twice as high as people in Europe, whose population is only estimated to be 17% obese. With fast food restaurants on every corner here, a fast paced lifestyle and mass marketing being done twenty four hourse per day to our kids, there's no end in sight. I shudder to think of what the costs and availability of health insurance will be like in the next decade.

If you are in need of cheap health insurance you should always try to take advantage of any coverage offered by your employer. This will almost always be less expensive than anything you will find in the private sector. If your employer doesn't offer cheap health insurance then you should start shopping around online by getting several free health insurance quotes and comparing offers. With any luck, something will come along that fit into your budget.

Affordable Health Insurance Options

According to the Council for Affordable Health Insurance, people who are uninsured pay up to four times more for medical services than those who are insured because insurance companies and medical care providers negotiate behind the scenes. The unequal result of this practice is that uninsured people are burdened with the highest hospital bills. Thus, even if you cannot afford expensive and comprehensive health insurance plans, it is still important to seek some type of affordable health plan.

Affordable Health Insurance Option 1 - Medicaid

Medicaid is a state-managed program that is funded by both the states and federal government to provide health insurance for low-income individuals and families that meet the eligibility requirement. Each state has its own set of guidelines regarding eligibility, services, and payments. There are 25 different eligibility categories that can be classified into five broad groups: (1) pregnant women, (2) children and teenager, (3) the elderly, (4) the blind, and (5) the disabled. In general, you should apply for Medicaid if your are considered low-income under the federal income guideline and if you match one of the descriptions of the eligibility groups. Your total asset and immigration status are also considered in the overall assessment of the application. Note a child under the age of 18 can qualify for Medicaid if the child is a U.S. citizen or legal resident regardless of their guardians' legal statuses.

Medicaid covers most health care services including hospital and nursing home care, lab tests, medical equipments, prescription drugs, and some dental care. It does not, however, cover podiatrists, chiropractors, naturopaths, psychologists, physical therapists, audiologists, or speech therapists.

Affordable Health Insurance Option 2 - Catastrophic Health Insurance

Catastrophic health insurance, also known as the major medical plan, is available to people who have good general health. Major pre-existing medical conditions such as AIDS, diabetes, emphysema, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and schizophrenia may bar you from purchasing a catastrophic health plan. Catastrophic health insurance has high deductibles and very low monthly premiums. For instance, a 21-year old female nonsmoker would only need to pay $29 per month.

As implicated in its name, catastrophic health insurance only covers major hospital and medical expenses above a certain deductible. Most of the catastrophic health plans cover expenses for hospital stays, surgery, intensive care, diagnostic X-ray, and lab tests. All other expenses must be paid out-of-pocket. While it is possible to vary your level of coverage by selecting different deductible-plans, the deductible under catastrophic health plan is typically $500 or higher. Catastrophic health insurance is a great alternative for those seeking affordable health insurance and who do not qualify for Medicaid.

Cheap Health Insurance Plan - A Simple Way To Save Money

Is there such a thing as cheap health insurance? It hardly seems possible when you look at the rise in hospital costs and physician services. Insurance companies have the task of underwriting the medical risk for insurance. The insurer then issues and delivers the policy to the insured once they are accepted into the plan. The policyholders then receive the policy declaration pages that list all of the benefits and features.

What are those benefits and features? How do they work after a hospital stay? When you begin to find the answers to those questions then you begin to understand what makes up the total premium. When you receive your first benefit statement after a hospital stay then you will begin to understand how the deductible is applied and how the coinsurance works.

Simple claims a
nalysis

1. Total inpatient expense for 4 days in the hospital including physician services amounts to $4000.

2. Your policy has a $500 deductible with an 80/20 coinsurance clause with a maximum out of pocket $2000.

3. You must pay the first $500 for your stay leaving a balance of $3500.

4. You will pay 20% of that $3500 or $700 and the insurance company will pay $2800.

When your 20% reaches $2000 then the insurance company pays 100% of the remaining costs up to a million dollars (or 2 million etc).

The health insurance buying trends indicate that people are purchasing health insurance with higher deductibles. Deductibles bring down the premium dramatically. There are some plans with deductibles as high as $5000. This is called self-insuring because in essence that is what you are doing for the deductible amount.

Health Savings Accounts are also starting to become very popular. These savings accounts are tax deductible. They are like medical IRA'S. Contact your tax advisor or accountant for more details.

Finding Cheap Health Insurance

With unemployment rates at an all time low in many parts of the country, small business owners must do more than ever to attract quality employees to work for them. If you are finding it difficult to find that diamond in the rough of applications, it might be time to take a look at what you are offering. While salary matters, more and more employees are placing a high degree of concern on what benefits a company has to offer.

This is particularly important where health care coverage is concerned. With more Americans than ever advocating a switch to a socialized health care platform, there is an increased need for companies to provide low cost, quality health insurance in order to attract employees. In todays climate, the small business owner who fails to provide quality coverage will struggle to obtain and maintain a roster of good employees.

In order to obtain the cheapest and most effective health insurance, you will want to find group health insurance that your employees can sign up for. While these rates will not be as good as they would be if your were bringing a larger group of people to the table, they will be what you have to deal with and it may pay for itself in its attractiveness to potential workers.

Of course, you can even play around with your hiring salary rates, lowering them to make up for the costs of providing the health insurance. This of course, depends upon whether you were offering competitive salaries in the first place. There are also some steps you can take to lower the cost of health insurance. A no smoking policy and random drug testing may be slight deterrents to employees but they will affect your insurance rates dramatically.

One way you can improve your chances for cheaper health insurance is to sign your employees to a larger company. This will in effect make your employees contracted workers. This will take some explaining to your employees but it can be a great way to put them in a much larger client pool, thus reducing the costs of health insurance. It will also affect your taxes and those of your employees, so make sure they understand what they are signing up for and alleviate any concerns they might have.

An insurance broker can help you figure out what insurance plan would be right for your company if all of this seems a bit overwhelming to you. What you lose in having to pay a broker you will make up for in the assurance that you have chosen the plan and the company that will be best for your small business needs. In addition to this, do not hesitate to bring your existing employees in on the discussion. Find out what they, as a group, consider the most important aspects of a health insurance policy. This can help you determine what programs you need to offer and what benefits are doing you no good whatsoever.

Health insurance and related benefits are a must for the competitive small business owner. It is getting to the point where those companies that d not offer at least a rudimentary plan will have trouble attracting even the worst employees. You do not want to fall into this category. Research, bite the bullet and sign your employees up for the best health insurance you can afford.
